Fiddle Road 05:01
Fiddle Road When I was a young man I was walkin in the park Evenin sky lit up with patriotic fireworks I come upon ol’ Billy Playin fiddle in the dark I felt the bolt of lightnin Fiddle hit it’s mark Billy played the fiddle He could really make it sing You could hear him in the wee hours Cuttin through most anything He played it fast, he played it right He walked down filddle road And the first time that I saw him I hoped that i would follow down the road Fiddle road I learned to fake a fiddle tune By watchin Billy Spears And it’s somethin that’s stayed with me In spite of all the years Just dance around the melody The fiddle does the rest When you’re keepin up with Billy Spears You keep up with the best Oh, Billy played the fiddle He could really make it sing You could hear him in the wee hours Cuttin through most anything He played it fast, he played it right He walked down filddle road And the first time that I saw him I hoped that i would follow down the road Fiddle road It’s been a while since I seen Billy Smokin on the strings And i’m still feelin grateful To that man for everything And now I share the music With a younger pickin crowd And when Rachel hits the chorus Billy played the fiddle He could really make it sing You could hear him in the wee hours Cuttin through most anything He played it fast, he played it right He walked down filddle road And the first time that I saw him I hoped that i would follow down the road Fiddle road

Too Far Gone 05:26
Swore I’d leave this town in the dust Come back now to see it all gone to rust Aint it funny how nothign seems to change Still somehow nothing feels the same Feels the same Only had two stations on the radio One preached god, the other would save your soul Like a rose in the yard where the grass is overgrown Forgotten, but blooming on my own On my own Like a bird on a wire wishing it was a tree I had to find out what it felt like to be free Cause this home on the range was never quite my own Oh you’ll be there and ill be too far gone I remember where that old dog used to lay Outside of the motel in the sun all day The sign still says vacant now, that’s true I guess that’s all that’s left of me and you Me and you And I can still feel the wind in your beat up pickup truck Down the backroads we found love It was kind it was sweet it was simple it was true And everything I needed out of you From you Like a bird on a wire wishing it was a tree Wish it was a tree I had to find out what it felt like to be free Felt like to be free Cause this home on the range was never quite my own Never quite my own Oh, you’ll be there and I’ll be too far gone Oh, the look you gave in my rearview That’s not how I wanted to remember you Not a day goes by I don’t think of you Anymore Like a bird on a wire wishing it was a tree Wish it was a tree I had to find out what it felt like to be free Felt like to be free Cause this home on the range was never quite my own Never quite my own Oh, you’ll be there and I’ll be too far gone Swore I’d leave this town in the dust

The night is giving way To another bluegrass day Waiting for the light Bluegrass lullaby Picking all night long Time for one last song Fall down and say goodnight It’s a bluegrass lullaby Emma Lou’s been singing like an angel Young fellas all are crowded round the fire JJ’s picking “Trash Barge” on the banjo The feeling round the camp keeps getting higher Oh, the night is giving way To another bluegrass day Waiting for the light Bluegrass lullaby Picking all night long Time for one last song Fall down and say goodnight It’s a bluegrass lullaby The rent-a-cops are making me feel nervous I’ve got to keep the whiskey out of sight Kids are stealing Bud Lights from the cooler Scotty’s swinging breaking up a fight Oh, the night is giving way To another bluegrass day Waiting for the light Bluegrass lullaby Picking all night long Time for one last song Fall down and say goodnight It’s a bluegrass lullaby Fall down and say goodnight It’s a bluegrass lullaby

Bye and Bye 03:04
Bye and bye through the town I remember our good bye And every time you looked down I remember you would cry All alone on the train it was September Now I’m cryin in the rain in November Bye and bye for all time I remember cryin eyes Of the one that I loved On the train last goodbye All alone on the train it was September Now I’m cryin in the rain in November Rush of air, whistle wail Wheel begin a turnin Sound of shovel, scrapin steel Smell that coal fire burnin Faces in the crowd are fixed Upon the movin windows I turn to you again Your eyes say “no tomorrow” Your eyes say “no tomorrow” Bye and bye as a train Rumbles through the night Remember all the pain When we said our last goodbye All alone on the train it was September Now I’m cryin in the rain in November

Oh, you said it so softly that I knew it was true Sitting there in the evening talking to you Window light’s getting dimmer blocking out shades of grey Soon the light will be gone like the end of a song And then you’ll go away Both of us knew that the time we had left Would fade with the summer like promises kept No I wouldn’t change nothing in the way we have been Lean on my shoulder, and we’ll bend with the wind I can show you a picture I can show you the place We sat in the evening just like the old days Just sitting and talking feel the night coming on Hold me tight one more time, let me look in your eyes And then you’ll be gone Both of us knew that the time we had left Would fade with the summer like promises kept No I wouldn’t change nothing in the way we have been Lean on my shoulder, and we’ll bend with the wind

Last night in my dreams I saw you again Bringing light to the dark side of day Last night in my arms I held you again And felt your affectionate gaze Oh, Mama you’ve gone on before us But your memory lives in my heart Someday and then we’ll meet again Never forever to part This world is a hard road to travel Sorrow’s always there at the end You gotta get right with the Mother You gotta stay tight with your friends Love lights a path through the darkness You gotta hold on to your dreams You gotta hold on to your favorite song Dark as the hour may seem Oh, Mama you’ve gone on before us But your memory lives in my heart Someday and then we’ll meet again Never forever to part Things didn’t turn out like I planned them Mostly dead ends and wrong turns Take a chance on a kiss, take a chance but you miss Feel like you always get burned The ghosts of my past do not haunt me I finally learned how to adjust Something that always sustained me Was Mama, my sweet love and trust Oh, Mama you’ve gone on before us But your memory lives in my heart Someday and then we’ll meet again Never forever to part Someday and then we’ll meet again Never forever to part

Bear Song 03:33
This is the song that the wild ones sing As each in its own way waits for the spring They don’t care if you join their song If you stay in tune you can sing along This is the song that the brown bear sings As he goes to his cave to sleep to the spring He don’t care if you join his song If you stay in tune you can sing along When the leaves fall from the trees And the air is getting cold The hair goes thick on my brown bear back And I starts to smellin cold I’ve no love lost for the chillin frost For the snow that blows or the sleet that stings So I make my way to my warm, snug cave And I lay me down to sleep till the spring This is the song that the wild ducks sing As they fly from the winter to wait for the spring They don’t care if you sing their song If you stay in tune you can sing along When the ice starts to cover the lake We fly to the sky to make our escape Fly to the south where the breezes are warm We hide from the ice and the winter storm Hide from the wind and the snow that blows We find shelter in a southern cove Wait for the days turn long and green We know we’ll fly home again This is the song that the snow hare sings She changes her coat to wait for the spring She don’t care if you join her song If you stay in tune you can sing along My fur coat changes from brown to white So I can hide in the snow so bright My white coat blends so well in the snow The grey wolf can never tell where I go To the fierce grey wolf, a rabbit is a treat I don’t intend to meet his teeth I change my coat and hide in the snow While the blizzard rages and the cold winds blow This is the song that the wild ones sing As each in it’s own way waits for the spring I sleep We fly I hide in the snow While the blizzard rages and the cold winds blow This is the song that the wild ones sing as Each in its own way waits for the spring They don’t care if you join their song If you stay in tune you can sing along

about

Heyleon is a deep space acoustic flight where space time as we know it goes away…

This Trans-Apocalyptic Pagan Gospel Super Group was formed in the Pecan Grove at Walnut Valley Festival, where musicians from a handful of established regional bands cross-pollinated to create a full Kansas bluegrass sound. They echo the campgrounds and pickin’ parties they love, from Lawrence, Kansas to Taos, New Mexico. The sweet guitar, salty banjo, sailing fiddle, plucky mandolin, smooth bass lines and abundant harmony vocals are sure to satisfy the bluegrass lover’s soul.

Mike Helvey’s original material, spanning 50 years of songwriting, is center stage in this project. Joined by Bayley Kate (Ashes to Immortality, Bayley Kate and Running Late), Brandon Allai (Signal Ridge, Ashes to Immortality), Brody Wellman (Pretend Friend) Elexa Dawson (Weda Skirts), Peter Oviatt (Signal Ridge, The Neighbors) and Rachel Allai (Weda Skirts, Signal Ridge), each member of this power group contributes their unique playing styles and original tunes.

A live show is a rare occasion, but these creators are prolific in studio, making a regular migration from Eastern Kansas to Taos, NM with Peter Oviatt doing double duty as engineer at Moonflower Sounds. Bassist Brody Wellman adds his expertise in recording and mastering.
