An instrumental into a song back into the instrumental. Arranged by Rachel Allai. I first met Rachel in November 2008 at a local festival – In the stretched out Sunday morning after the Saturday night before, we played Irish fiddle tunes for a couple of hours and eventually drew quite a crowd. She and Brandon got hitched in the summer of 2015, and they’re raising a young ‘un.
Oh yeah, about that song - White Trash went to Ireland in May of 1995 – we ran into some musicians in Kerry who told us about a local jam in at a pub in Ballyferriter the next night – Ballyferriter was several buildings around a cross road on the westernmost tip of Europe
The two lane blacktop to Ballyferriter ran along a cliff, with a lush forest growing right down into the edge of the ocean
Warrah was the jam-master’s daughter – She played a pretty good fiddle – I made a pledge to myself to go back one day – not so sure about that now though
At closing time the door was locked, the curtains pulled along the large front window, and the beers were set out – there’s always a cat and mouse game with the gendarmes – but it would seem like the cops would have to know about it
At dawn we ended up at the home of the Illyian harp player – she had told us about the jam – I would have liked to take her with us - we drank the last bottle of stout and woke up the kids
