about

Elexa Dawson and Stanley Hotel boast a brilliant collaboration in their forthcoming album, Wanderlust. “Sweet Sisters” is the first of two single offerings prior to the February album release. Elexa relocated to Kansas 18 years ago, but happily traveled back “home” to the Oklahoma red dirt that raised her to record at Remote Records.

“Sweet Sisters” is a tribute to traditional “three sisters” gardening, written by Adam Stanley and Isaac Nelson, and produced by the pair, Elexa, and Doug Swindell. With Elexa’s soaring vocals on Stanley Hotel’s instrumentation, it features Elexa’s daughter and cousin, Carli and Annie Roberts on harmonies.

“I was honored that Adam and Isaac brought this song into the project for me to sing. It is completely on brand with where my work and energy has been directed the last few years. To bring my kids in to sing on the project was super special, having lost our Nana, who taught us to sing, during the recording of the album. I feel like it’s a full-circle moment.”

About Stanley Hotel:
Stanley Hotel is a fluid Oklahoma-based Indie Rock outfit whose studio methods allow for a fully-formed, clean yet complex listening experience. Adam Stanley, Isaac Nelson, and Doug Swindell welcome the weird. Core releases such as The Moose (which features collaborator Elexa Dawson on backup vocals), The Wolf Told Me, and Samson Mammoth are complimented by diversified side-projects such as the self-titled Magna Contra and Repairman Noize.

lyrics

Let’s plant a garden for the sisters three
Plant a row of corn, a row of squash and beans
The corn gives the bean vine a place to grow
The squash leaves shade the earth below

How do we pass what the elders know
Singing songs while planting rows
To learn what you sow is what you reap
you have to love the crow and the bumblebee

Oh, let’s go down where the honeysuckle grows
down by the creek where the water flows
we can plant our seeds and sow our oats. It's easy
Oh, you’re gonna have rain and you’ll have sunshine
It takes both, and a little bit of time
Life is short and it’s yours and mine

I long for the land where I used to be
On the prairie wind I hear the elders sing
If you’ve lost your sisters just sing these notes
And you’ll find yourself where the honeysuckle grows

Oh, let’s go down where the honeysuckle grows
down by the creek where the water flows
we can plant our seeds and sow our oats
Oh, you’re gonna have rain and you’ll have sunshine
It takes both, and a little bit of time
Life is short and it’s yours and mine. It's easy

Oh, the sweet sisters three
Oh, the sweet sisters three
Oh, the sweet sisters three
Oh, the sweet sisters three
